Counselling FAQ's
1
Do you offer face to face counselling?
Yes, I offer face to face counselling at a Location in Northampton, NN4
2
Do you offer online Sessions?
Yes. I regularly work with clients online via Zoom or teams.
Online counselling works incredibly well. So, if it’s difficult to reach one of my counselling rooms, or if it simply fits better with your lifestyle, online counselling is a fantastic option to consider.
Before our session, I will send you a link. A few minutes before the session, simply click on this link and you’ll be taken to an online waiting room. I’ll let you in just as the session starts.
Here are a few tips to help you get the most from your online counselling...
· Make sure you are somewhere you can speak openly and won’t be overheard
· Make sure you have a strong internet connection
· Have your mobile phone handy in case we have any issues with the connection
· Sit somewhere that is well lit and the space behind you isn’t too bright. So for example, sit facing a window rather than with the window behind you. This helps me see you properly in the session.
· If you are using a mobile phone, prop it up or use a tripod so you don’t have to hold it up in front of you. Phones may be lightweight, but 50 minutes is a long time to keep your arm out-stretched and still for.
3
How much does each session cost?
Each session costs £50. You can pay by cash or bank transfer; before or on the day.
4
How often should I have sessions?
Each session is 50 minutes and are usually at the same time, once a week. The frequency of sessions can be discussed and adjusted if appropriate.
5
How many sessions will I need?
This varies from person to person. Some people find 6-12 sessions enough, some fewer. Some prefer 'open-ended' therapy, which means there is no set number, either to ensure consistent support is available or to provide the opportunity to talk free from any time restrictions. Once you have finished you can always return.
6
Does it matter what my presenting problem is? Is there anyone you don't work with?
I have experience of working with an extremely broad array of people. If at any point during our sessions you, or I, feel you might benefit from more specialised help I will be able to refer or signpost you to a relevant organisation or colleague.
7
If I'm not sure what I want counselling for, can I still come?
Yes. This is something we can discuss in our initial meeting. Sometimes just having the opportunity to talk in the first session will bring things to light you might want to explore further.
8
Is counselling confidential?
Everything you say in counselling is confidential. This includes anything we discuss in your pre-therapy conversation. Essentially, everything we talk about stays between you and I. However there are a few exceptions to this principle and I will make these clear during our first session together.
9
How do I know that counselling is safe for me?
As a qualified counsellor / psychotherapist I am a member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy, and abide by their Ethical Framework. This helps give my clients confidence that I am always working to the very best ethical and professional standards.
In addition, as with all professional counsellors, I have an experienced clinical supervisor who oversees all of my work, ensuring that I am always working in the best interests of my clients and that these standards are maintained at all times.
10
How do I end counselling?
Just tell me. I will always suggest having a couple of sessions to finish so the ending doesn't feel too abrupt but this is always open for discussion.
11
Once I've finished counselling can I come back?
Yes. I always welcome back past clients. It makes sense for you to return to a therapist who knows you and with whom you feel comfortable.
